I chose to do my concept map on ancient domes. These structures play a huge part in our history and are a lot more significant than many people realize. These domes served for thousands of people for many years and some are even still standing

Domes represent different cultures just in the way they are built, the material and then structures. Inside these domes different groups had their own placements of gathering areas, conferences, etc. I chose to examine Hagia Sophia, and the Taj Mahal. Both of these are significant structures in our history.IMG_20160227_175700718

Concept Map: Time keepers

February 27, 2016 by lindsayhaskins Leave a Comment

On the discussion of other sacred structures, Camilla wrote about the time keepers of the mosque. It really intrigued me that there was a person thats sole purpose was to keep time in regards to the 5 daily prayers.

I decided to do my concept map on the Muwaqqit and dipped into the 5 prayers times a bit. I started with explaining what  Muwaqqit was and why that position came to an end. The obvious answer is technology but also the structures of the states played into who was in charge of keeping time for prayer. Looking at the time keeper I wanted to know why prayer at a certain time was important. With the concept map I discussed the 5 prayer times, and the changes urbanization and technology have had on calculating the times. Initially I wanted to look at the Muwaqqit and other personnel in religous structures that held the same importance as the Muwaqqit. I couldn’t really find anything that would give my anything substantial.

Concept Map

I built my concept map on the Aztec Empire and what they have contributed to modern day society. This fascinates me greatly because it is so hard to create an understanding of how they were able to build the society they did, with the tools and technology that was at hand.

The Map is circled around one topic, the Aztec Empire, with many examples of innovations/discoveries branching off in all directions. My mind sees it this way because all of these things were an outcome of the Empire that the Aztecs created. From these there are a few examples that branch off into smaller items. In a few case while building the map I noticed that these smaller branches directly correlated with each other so it got a little messy trying to link them together as well.

To finish the Map, I tried to show how the Aztec Empire directly impacted the modern day society. They may not have given us the exact tools we use today, but they formed the foundations for future creative minds to create the things that we use every day.
