Hey Everybody,

I am Caitlyn, a freshman at BSU. I was born into a large family and was raised in the Boise area. I have never traveled too far from home. I can’t really complain about that, because I love it here. Idaho is a beautiful place. One thing that I am grateful for is the way my parents taught me to respect and value nature. Idaho has so many natural playgrounds that I’ve enjoyed exploring, like white water rafting, snowboarding, rock climbing, and even just going on a hike. But of course, one day I hope I will be in the position to travel the world and see other parts of nature.

I graduated from Eagle High School last year in 2015, and headed straight to college after that. I am majoring in English education. I had a writing teacher my senior year who had a way of making her students feel excited about even the smallest things. She used that tool to teach us in an incredible way, and I’ve decided I would like to try to do what she does. Not just in English, but in every way I possibly can to be able to help young people learn and grow.

I am eager to do well in this class and look forward to what everyone has to say and the feedback I receive this semester. 🙂

Hello everyone!

My name is Steven and I am in my fourth year here at Boise State University. I am majoring in Civil Engineering and plan to pursue a career in sustainable and environmentally friendly buildings. I was born and raised in Olympia, WA and moved to Boise for both school and the abundance of outdoor activities. Looking back, it was interesting being raised in one of the most liberal cities in the country, while having fairly conservative parents. I believe it gave me a good view of both sides and allowed me to form my own political opinions. Growing up, my parents made sure I stayed active and I consistently participated in a large variety of sports, eventually sticking with baseball and football throughout high school. My life was also heavily influenced by attending church on a regular basis, although I have stopped since. When I was younger, I was an avid reader and enjoyed book series such as Harry Potter and Redwall. When it became required to read books that I wasn’t interested in for class is when I lost my desire to read. In my free time, I enjoy hiking, backpacking, snowboarding, and mountain biking. My appreciation for the outdoors has influenced my desire to preserve nature and pursue a career that helps protect the environment. I like to consult a variety of sources to find out what is going on in the world, including Flipboard and the Apple News App. I also love watching Vice News documentaries. In the last couple years or so, I have made it a point to keep up with the news and politics so that I can stay politically informed. I believe it is important for each citizen to take on the responsibility of voting and doing so with an informed opinion. I look forward to learning more about history and am hoping for a great semester!

Hey everyone! My name is Elisa Jayo everyone calls me Ellie! I am a senior at BSU this year and I am majoring in Criminal Justice. A little background about me is, I was born and raised in Emmett Idaho….yes I said Emmett. I have grown up hunting, fishing, camping, and playing sports. I am currently a large animal vet tech in Emmett which I absolutely love. I also rodeo on a couple of my horses. I am 3/4 Basque and my family is very passionate about our Basque history. Some books I used to read (at my own will) were The Child Called It books. I am not a reader, unless of course its a grade and I am forced to. I have one dog, his name is Moesly! One of the biggest things that interests me in our history is the Holocaust. I will admit I am extremely behind on issues in our world and government. I dont watch TV and am rarely on facebook! I am looking forward to being apart of this class and learning more about our history and hopefully it will help me focus more on what is happening around me today. I am very familiar with our legal system, because that is what I have been studying the past four years of college. I plan on finishing my bachelors degree this fall. Although I have worked very hard to get this degree I will continue being a large animal vet tech for awhile and eventually move into my degree. I love my job and everything it entails, I am a huge supporter of farming/ranching. One thing that I wish I could change about this world is how it operates. We need more farm land, more livestock, and less chemicals. Anyways, thats just a little bit about me, I look forward to meeting all of you.
